I teach piano, keyboard and musicianship, composition and improvisation to people of all ages and abilities. I offer incredibly fun and funky lessons that progress as far as the student wants to go; from beginner’ classical or jazz keyboard skills to song-writing and fully fledged ensemble compositions.

Composition

For advanced students I offer lessons based on the Schillinger System of Musical Composition, a rhythm-based system invented by Joseph Schillinger in the 1930s and influenced some of the greatest names in music, such as, Gershwin, Coltrane and Quincy Jones, to name only a few. There is nothing abstract about this method; in fact it's perfect for all kinds of contemporary popular music making. The teaching covers all areas of music from rhythm to pitch, melody and harmony but the rhythmic techniques are the most compelling and underpin everything else.
